Children's Books: EASTER IS CANCELLED! (Adorable Bedtime Story/Picture Book About Easter, Being Responsible, and Appreciating the Efforts of Others, for Beginner Readers, 30 Illustrations, Ages 2-8)

Easter comes but once a year. But this year the Easter Bunny was not participating, not taking charge, not helping out. The other animals had their duties and were working well. Not the Easter Bunny! Why? His excuse was that no one ever thanks him for all the work he does to create a special day for kids all over the world. So, he cancelled Easter. Oh my, oh my.

A wise and thoughtful owl is consulted. His solution warms the heart of the bunny. What the Easter Bunny is told is important for all kids to know. You’ll have to read the book to find out what that is.

Children's Books: GERALD MCGILLIGOG'S DOG (Funny, Whimsical, Rhyming Bedtime Story/Picture Book, for Beginner Readers About Choosing to be Happy, Ages 2-8) (Happy Children's Series Book 9)

When the desires of a dog and a frog coincide, they decide to trade places. Fortunately for them, the dog’s owner, Gerald McGilligog, never wears his glasses. The family of McGilligogs is also remiss about wearing their glasses, which in turn affects their eyesight and ability to distinguish between the frog and dog. Thus the frog, posing as a dog, finds a new home. All the characters, including the green one, find happiness in this new arrangement.

The whimsical art of Sally Huss bounces along with rhyming, tongue-twisting words as the story unfolds.

Children who love the rhyming, nonsensical books of Dr. Seuss will love this book. And those who are fans of the books by Mo Willems, the Berenstains, Sandra Boynton, Felicia Bond, Laura Numeroff, and P.D. Eastman will also love GERALD MCGILLIGOG’S DOG. Age range: 2-8.

Excerpt:

“Once among the family of McGilligogs, a-gogs, with moms and dads and lads and lasses,

None of them wearing glasses,

The frog was given a juicy bone.

He smiled and said, ‘I’ve found my home.

This is the life for me.

I’m no longer in a bog a bog

Sitting on a log, a log.’

He decided he’d be a dog, a dog

And was as happy as could be.”

Family Pride: What LGBT Families Should Know about Navigating Home, School, and Safety in Their Neighborhoods (Queer Ideas/Queer Action)

An invaluable portrait and roadmap on how to thrive as an LGBT family

The overwhelming success of Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” YouTube project aimed at queer youth highlighted that despite the progress made in gay rights, LGBT people are still at high risk of being victimized. While the national focus remains on the mistreatment of gay people in schools, the reality is that LGBT families also face hostility in various settings—professional, recreational, and social. This is especially evident in rural communities, where the majority of LGBT families live, isolated from support networks more commonly found in urban spaces.

Family Pride is the first book for queer parents, families, and allies that emphasizes community safety. Drawing on his years as a dedicated community activist and on the experiences of LGBT parents, Michael Shelton offers concrete strategies that LGBT families can use to intervene in and resolve difficult community issues, teach their children resiliency skills, and find safe and respectful programs for their children.
